Vocational Nurse Program

Clovis Adult Education’s Vocational Nurse program has been accredited by the Board of Vocational Nurse and Psychiatric Technician Examiners to provide the skills and knowledge necessary to work in today’s advanced technical health care environment. At CAE you will encounter standards of excellence throughout your training. Upon completion you will qualify to take the National Council Licensure Examination. CAE adheres to the BVNPT’s requirements for LVN Licensure. Please see the website: CA Board of Vocational Nursing & Psychiatric Techniciansfor further information. Upon completion of the Vocational Nurse program CAE students may articulate to the Registered Nurse program at Fresno City College. Please contact Fresno City College at 559-244-2664..

The next available Vocational Nurse class is scheduled to begin on September 8, 2014. Students attend 3 days a week for a period of 18 months of instruction. Theory classes are held from 7:30am – 4:30pm and Clinical is held from 6:00am to 2:30pm (days will vary). All students are responsible for fees, textbooks and supplies. The total program will cost approximately $15,000. PELL grants are available for the students who qualify. Please contact our Financial Aid Office at 559-327-2803 after you have been accepted into the program.

Your VN application, official transcript of completed pre-requisite classes and Level A TABE test scores must be turned into the Nursing Department no later than June 20, 2014.

Vocational Nurse Requirements

  1. Must have a High School Diploma/GED®, Associates Degree or a Bachelor’s Degree.
    • Please call the Nursing Office for information regarding diplomas from foreign countries
  2. Certified Nurse Assistant State Certification
  3. Submit a Vocational Nurse application to the Nursing Office by the required date. Applications are available on our website or in the Nursing Office.
  4. Pass a Level A TABE test at 11th grade or above. Students with the highest TABE scores are selected first
  5. Must have a current Basic Life Support American Heart CPR card and physical clearance not more than 6 months old
  6. Must have completed, MMR (Measles, Mumps & Rubella) immunization, Hepatitis B Vaccine (series of 3 immunizations or first injection started), Varicella (Chicken Pox) immunization, Tdap (Pertussis) Vaccine, Influenza (Flu) Vaccine for current year and proof of TB (Tuberculosis) clearance not more than 6 months old
  7. 2 Letters of Recommendations
  8. You will need to bring a 2x2 color passport photo of yourself for the office to keep in your file
  9. You must complete with a passing grade of 78%, Medical Terminology, Nutrition, Anatomy & Physiology, Medical Math and Computer Technology/Study Skills
  10. You will need to provide a photocopy of your Driver’s License, Birth Certificate, Social Security Card, CNA Certification, Physical Clearance, Immunizations, High School Diploma/GED® and CPR card along with the originals once class has started

**Student selection for VN program is by total GPA of TABE scores and personal interview.
